Introduction to Llangatwg Rugby

Rugby union is played at Llangatwg Community School during the Autumn & Spring terms. Teams are run for each year group, with the addition of "B" teams when possible. Every child is encouraged to to participate in the school teams where they can learn rugby skill's, even if they have never played the game. Llangatwg benefits from having fully recognised Welsh Rugby Union qualified coaches. Fixtures are played against Neath/Port Talbot schools & Swansea schools. Each season every year group enters the Neath/Port Talbot 15-a-side and 7-a-side competitions, together with a 10-a-side festivals organised by the Welsh Rugby Union development officers. Also the Urdd National school 7's are entered at under 13 & under 15 age levels and the Rosslyn Park National school 7's at under 13 & under 16 levels held in London in March.

The senior years may also be entered in to the National schools 15-a-side tournament. Fortunes have been mixed over previous seasons with the exception of an appearance in the final back in the 90's, where Llangatwg narrowly lost.

Currently Llangatwg school have numerous players who are playing for various age groups for Afan Nedd, Neath Schools and the Ospreys regional side.

The girls also have rugby teams at llangatwg, there are various tag tournaments for girls U/14's and U/16's throughout the school year.
