Who are we?
We
are a group of Llangatwg pupils from all years who are trying to
improve our school environment.
What
is our aim?
Our
aim is to achieve the green flag and to improve the environment of
the school.
How
close are we to our aim?
We
are very close to our aim of getting the green flag, we have achieved the
bronze and the silver award.
What
have we done so far?
We
have done a survey on litter around the school. We
were unhappy with the findings, and decided to have a competition. The winning poster was then
placed around the school.
We have also launched a recycling scheme
in the school. We now recycle paper, cans, cardboard and plastic bottles. We also designed the logos to go on the front of the recycling bins.
We took part in assembly to advertise the bins, and make people aware of both litter and recycling in the school. We also planted
trees behind the canteen.
In order to keep people informed of what we have been doing we have set up a notice board, this web site and often put articles in the school news letter.
We also took part in an eco cluster afternoon which involved local primary schools. This was held in our school and involved the eco committees from the primary schools meeting up with us and sharing ideas and taking part in workshops.
Our
aims for the future?
Our aims for the future is
to evaluate our recycling scheme and to look at the use of energy
and water around the school. To continue our litter campaign,
also we would like to do more planting and improve the general
environment of the school in order to get our green flag.
