The ICT Department at Llangatwg prides itself on
being a forward thinking, an 'ahead of the game' department where
pupils are introduced to the latest hardware and software at the
earliest possible opportunity.
Resources:
The ICT department is accommodated in 3 of the main school IT rooms,
with a total of 78 computers specially configured to deliver the
courses available. Many of these are dedicated audio and video
editing systems.
In addition to the computers systems, there are audio and video recording facilities with different movie backdrops (including green
screen chromakey), studio lighting and a high definition video
camera combined with a 100w PA sound system.

Departmental Aims
The ICT Department aims are to:
Develop, maintain and stimulate pupils’ curiosity, interest and
enjoyment in ICT
Encourage pupils to have open, enquiring minds and to perceive ICT
in the context of a wider body of knowledge, skills and vocabulary.
Encourage pupils to become autonomous users of ICT with the
associated skills supporting life long study,
Equip pupils with the necessary skills for prospective employment in
a modern technological society.
Key Stage 3
Pupils in years 7,8 and 9 follow a scheme of work that follows the
requirements set out by the National Curriculum. All pupils are
awarded with a National Curriculum Level (level 3-7) at the end of
Key Stage 3. Pupils in Year 9 also complete a key Skills project in
Year 9 that gives the accreditation at level 1 or level 2.

Key Skills Project (Levels 1 & 2)

OCR Nationals
Most pupils in Years 10 and 11 follow the OCR Nationals (Oxford
Cambridge and RSA Examinations) suite of qualifications. OCR
Nationals are an exam-free alternative to GCSEs, taking a more
practical approach to learning and assessment.
The level 2 courses are equivalent to between one and four GCSE’s at
grades A* to C, with pupils able to choose units that are best
suited to their abilities from the selection available.
