Welcome to the History department at Llangatwg
Community School. We are a popular and successful department. At
present we study the following:
Year 7
Medieval Times (1000-1500)
Key Question - How did the arrival of the Normans change Wales and
Britain?
Year 8
The Early Modern period (1500-1760)
Key Question - How did change and conflict shape Wales and Britain?
Year 9
The Industrial Age (1760-1914)
Key Questions - What changes took place in Wales, Britain and the
wider world at this time, and how did people react to them?
The Twentieth Century
Key Question - How did important individuals and events shape our
world?
Year 10 & 11
We teach the WJEC GCSE in History. The topics are:

We study the rich and exciting tapestry that is the
past not only to learn more knowledge, but also to help our pupils
build transferable skills that they can take forward to other
contexts, especially the workplace. History lessons are interesting
and varied, with pupils encouraged to show independence of learning.
Pupils regularly use ICT and are given help to improve their written
skills through learning about the past.

The team is well established. Mr Millington is Team
Leader for the WJEC exam board paper Sport Leisure and Tourism, and
also Head of the Humanities Faculty. He is a former President of the
St. John's College History Society, Oxford University.
Mr Williams is the former Head of Department and now Exam Officer.
He is also in charge of the school's More Able and Talented
programme.
Mr Owen has extensive experience in Special Needs, and has taken
responsibility for the school's entry in the Welsh Schools Heritage
Initiative. The pupils develop interactive tour guide PDA equipment
for the local Aberdulais Falls Historical Site, for which they
received a prize.
Mr Skilton is our Headteacher, and a recent winner of Headteacher of
the Year.
